Recently, the steel cutting ceremony for the LanWin1 project of TenneT 2GW Program- LanWin 1 project, undertaken by Shanghai Steel Structure Construction (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SCGSS"), was successfully held.Present at the ceremony were Fan Lihong, Member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone; Daniel Birkenstock, HVDC Portfolio Director of Tennet, Chairul Aditya, Lead Yard Management of Tennet, Frank B?hm, Project Lead Offshore Platform of Tennet, Oliver Randt, Construction Manager LanWin1 of Tennet, and Erick Prunier, Sub-Project Lead Structural and T&I of Tennet; Xavier Sarron, HVDC Project Director of GE Vernova, and James Robertson HVDC Portfolio Director of GE Vernova ; Alexander Snijders, Senior Project Manager of McDermott, Faridah Bechkri, Supply Chain Director of McDermott, Jeyashree Vijeyasooriya, Engineering Manager of McDermott, and Vinod Shekar, Package Manager of McDermott; Yu Jianqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of SCGSS; as well as middle and senior leaders of SCGSS and employee representatives from marketing, production, quality, project and other departments. Guests from third-party inspection institutions including Lloyds Register were also invited to attend. Representatives from all sides gathered to lay a solid foundation for the full advancement of the steel structure panels of this transnational green energy infrastructure project.

It is reported that TenneT 2GW program covers offshore platforms and onshore power stations in Germany and the Netherlands, serving as a core project for cross-regional clean energy interconnection in Europe. The core function of the project is to convert 66kV Alternating Current (AC) generated by offshore wind farms into 525kV Direct Current (DC), which is efficiently transmitted to onshore stations via submarine cables, then reconverted into 380kV AC for integration into the onshore power grids of Germany and the Netherlands, facilitating the efficient consumption and cross-regional allocation of clean energy in Europe. Led by TenneT for Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), the project adopts standardized design solutions to reduce construction and later operation and maintenance costs. It is jointly promoted by multiple parties including the GE/McDermott (GEM) consortium, bringing together world-leading international technologies and resources. At the ceremony, Alexander Snijders, Senior Project Manager of McDermott, delivered an opening speech on behalf of McDermott. He expressed his delight that SCGSS has emerged as a very strong and reliable partner in McDermott supply chain, bringing technical quality of work, flexibility and accountability. They are very confident in the collaboration together and look forward to developing further relationship.
Yu Jianqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of SCGSS, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of SCGSS. He extended a warm welcome to the international guests who traveled from afar and leaders at all levels of Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone who have long cared for and supported the enterprise’s development, and expressed sincere gratitude to all colleagues who worked diligently for the preparation of the project. He pointed out that SCGSS had successfully completed the BalWin4 project previously, accumulating rich experience in the construction of steel structure panels, which laid a solid technical and practical foundation for the smooth commencement of the LanWin1 project. As a key transnational green energy project, the LanWin1 project carries great construction significance. SCGSS will rely on its outstanding professionalism and technical capabilities and pursue excellence in construction, strictly controlling quality, progress and safety throughout the process. It will fully ensure the high-quality advancement and high-standard delivery of the project, living up to the trust and expectations of all parties.

Subsequently, Daniel Birkenstock, HVDC Portfolio Director of TenneT, Xavier Sarron, HVDC Project Director of GE Vernova, and Fan Lihong from Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone delivered congratulatory speeches respectively. All parties unanimously stated that with the joint efforts of all sides and the concerted efforts of government and enterprises, the project will be efficiently promoted and implemented. They will take concrete actions to draw a blueprint for the cooperative development of transnational green energy, and work together to achieve all project objectives and tasks on schedule.

After the speech session, leaders and guests attending the ceremony took to the stage together to complete the iconic rituals of ribbon-cutting and first steel cutting in sequence, and took group photos to capture this important moment of energy transition. The venue erupted in thunderous applause, and the ceremony concluded successfully in a warm atmosphere. Following the ceremony, SCGSS carefully arranged for the attending guests to visit the workshop. The guests inspected the manufacturing capabilities and technological research and development level on site, and learned in detail about the follow-up construction plan and advancement arrangements of the LanWin1 project.

As the contractor for the steel structure panels of this project, SCGSS has been deeply engaged in the field of offshore steel structures for many years, boasting profound technical accumulation and rich engineering practice experience. Going forward, the enterprise will strictly follow the project’s standardized design requirements, implement refined management, standardized construction and professional services, to fully guarantee project quality and construction progress, and fully support the efficient implementation of this international green energy project. The successful holding of the LanWin1 project steel cutting ceremony marks another key milestone for SCGSS in the field of international offshore HVDC converter stations, following the successful delivery of the BalWin4 project. It further demonstrates the synergy of Chinese and foreign parties in promoting cross-regional clean energy interconnection and supporting the achievement of global carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, setting a fine example for the cooperation on transnational green energy infrastructure projects.
